Lesson 3 of 6

What is MCP?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard for connecting agents to tools. An MCP server exposes tools (like search_catalog or create_draft) that any MCP-capable agent can call.

You add a server once, with one command or a few lines of config, and your agent can use it from then on.

  • Remote servers are a URL, e.g. https://teachmyagent.ai/api/mcp.
  • Local servers are a command your computer runs.

Safety tip: when a server asks for permissions (OAuth scopes), start with read-only. Add write access later, for specific jobs, once you trust the setup.
